The Magus

The Magus - John Fowles I read this book as a young man and, at the time, felt a great meaning from this story of a narcissist who is made into a human guinea pig, to his ultimate benefit, removing him forever from his shallow, pretentious views on life, women and the world.

The book changed me as at the time I was much like Nicholas Urfe, with a callous sense of intellectual superiority and emotional selfishness, and required this sort of intervention. I can cite this book for personal growth, and Joseph Heller and Kurt Vonnegut's work for my never ending cynicism about others. This book is a mind f*** of the highest order.
