The Art of Fiction: Notes on Craft for Young Writers
The author uses examples of good authors to illustrate his points. This is fine as long as one has read the author in question. As I read this book I was most often compiling a list of authors I should read so i could fully understand Gardner's opinions. When he used reprinted examples, I was there, I could see his points.
